19: Jesus is the Christ, But What Does That Mean?
When Peter confessed that he believed Jesus was the Christ, that meant something. Do you know what it meant? If you just had the Old Testament, where would you go to learn about the Messiah? Why did Jesus follow up on Peter's confession by plainly telling them that He'd suffer, be rejected by the Jewish leadership, be killed and then rise again? This passage (and the one which follows) is the hinge upon which the entire Gospel of Mark turns, and through it God challenges Christians to think about whether the Jesus they believe in is the whole Jesus.
